Domaine de Malavieille and its wine’s history

"It is against his wife Zenobie’s opinion that Fulcran Reynes bought most of the then fallow land left untended by the lord of Malavieille fleeing to Louisiana; this estate would later become the Domaine de Malavieille.

Fulcran’s granddaughter, my great-grandmother Cécile Vigné, had to face the phylloxera crisis, the destruction of the vineyard and its reconstruction in the late 19th century.

We are continuing the tradition of cultivating the demanding soils of Malavieille, always striving to elaborate a wine in accord with the land it is born of.”

The Estate

The Malavieille terroir is located in the Terrasses du Larzac sub-appellation area, within the Coteaux du Languedoc – Sud de France appellation.

It is characterized by its basalt flows, a continuation of the volcanic chains of the Massif Central, whose violent eruptions brought to the surface Permian clays aged 250 million years. This characteristic endows Domaine de Malavieille wines with very specific expression.

For some years now certification by Qualite France has enabled us to use the “Wine made from organic grapes” label.

We are taking environmental balance seriously, and the estate is evolving towards biodynamic viticulture under Demeter Biodynamic Certification standards.
