Location
The « terrace lands of Larzac » take up the northern part of the Languedoc region which is situated right against the Cevennes. Malavieille is located on a basalt flow fault and Saint-Saturnin and Montpeyroux on sandstone terraces and marls.

Geology
The Permian sandstone which used to compose the shore of the Miocene sea is of medium depth and the fertility of the soil limited by a thick mass of fallen basalt rocks.
Elsewhere, on the Arboras mountain, terraces made up of calcareous masses of fallen rocks which appeared at the Pleistocene period, produce high quality wines. There, the Bertrand family runs a vineyard covering 30 hectares on the Saint Saturnin terroir both in Lucian and in Montpeyroux.
